Product Information

An absolute stunner, this lovely perennial is an Intersectional Peony, a hybrid between traditional perennial varieties and the tougher tree peony, combining beauty, colour and robustness in one.

Also known as an Itoh Peony after Dr. Toichi Itoh, 'Cora Louise' produces beautiful white flowers with frilly, ruffled centres and a unique lavender blush at the petal base.

Highly prized by collectors these peonies quickly form a neat mound of deep-green foliage that acts as the perfect backdrop for its giant flowers - this superb peony will give you a tremendous display through May and into June.
What's more, the blooms carry a light scent which is a joy on those sunny spring days!

Long lived and easy to grow, this fully hardy peony is especially vigorous with sturdy flower stems that don't require staking – making them exquisite cut flowers.

Perfect in mixed borders in sun or light shade, it's not a plant that enjoys the confines of a pot for too long – if you must grow them in a container, use a large one and after a few years unpot the plant and relocate to a bed or border.

Plants will produce dozens of flowers when happy and because they grow wide rather than high, they are an excellent choice for a border hedge, with a wave of flowers which add to the overall planting scheme.

Consider growing them in several groupings of three or more at intervals along the length of a flower border for an early wave of romantic colour tones.

Supplied as a bare root plant ready for potting up and growing on or planting straight out when the soil has warmed.

Top Tips

This is an intersectional peony, which is a cross between a woody-stemmed tree peony and an herbaceous peony that dies back in autumn. The woody growth can be cut back during the winter down to 5-8cm (2-3in).

Care Information

  • Peony 'Cora Louise' requires a sunny or partial shade in well-drained soil. Plant so that the roots are covered up to where the branching begins.
  • Do not mix manure in the soil before planting as this may encourage rot.
  • When planting, dig a hole twice the width of root and deep enough to accommodate the root plus 2.5 – 5 cm (1 to 2in) of any stem.
  • Because plants are grown on their own root stock and are not grafted, any new growth from below soil will bloom true.
  • After the first heavy frost, cut plants back to (5-8cm) 2-3in above the ground. You can also wait until early spring if you prefer.
  • If you must plant in a pot, use a container that’s a minimum of 18? wide and deep and that has excellent drainage. Use a mix of 2/3 potting compost and 1/3 perlite to improve drainage.
  • Do not overwater – allow plants to dry out a bit between waterings. Place the pot where it will get morning sun or dappled sun all day.
