One place that isn’t on lockdown is our gardens! No matter the size, they are a sanctuary for children during this time when getting out and about to our usual venues is off-limits. Here are some great ideas for ‘What To Do’ during a lockdown Easter Break!
This ‘lockdown’ Easter break, let’s get the children gardening, sowing the seeds for a love of gardening for years to come! Whilst many businesses remain closed – your garden is always open, let’s make the most of it and get the little people involved too! It is a great way to get them outside and in the fresh air alongside helping them to learn and discover new things.

Hot to grow wildflowers
- Scatter 0.5cm (¼in) deep, directly into prepared, well-drained soil.
- Before sowing, rake the soil well and water well
- When seedlings appear (usually 14-28 days), thin them as needed to prevent competition.
- Water well and regularly until plants are established.
- Keep plants weed free to avoid competition.
- For a more natural effect, sow in curves or loose blocks.
- For a continuous display, make sowings at two to three-week intervals.
- Flowers: June-October.
Plant some veg – why not give them a small vegetable patch where they can plant some of their favourite fruit and veg!
Do a Bug Hunt – Get the kids close to nature and finding those common garden bugs. Many bugs prefer dark and damp spots in the garden so this may be the best place to start. Here are some bugs to look out for:
Build your own bird-feeder. For those who like to be creative, building a bird feeder is a great way to entertain them and a great way to be able to watch the birds!
