Wisteria floribunda 'Alba', the white-flowered Japanese Wisteria, is a magnificent, award-winning climber, smothered with drooping bouquets of fragrant white flowers, tinged lilac, through the summer.
Also known as ‘Shiro-naga’ this wisteria is a spectacular sight and a classic cottage garden favourite, best noted for its racemes of pea-like flowers which cascade gently down. Wisteria’s season of interest continues into autumn when the attractive, lobed foliage turns to a buttery yellow.
This elegant climber is thoroughly deserving of its RHS Award of Garden merit, and you can be sure that it will perform well in your garden – plus as its grafted, you're guaranteed that your plant will flower.
Despite much publicity that wisteria are difficult divas requiring a magical system of pruning, they're actually really easy to grow and will reward you with many years of pleasure in your garden. Ideal for covering a wall or pergola, wisteria can also be grown up and through an existing tree for a stunning torrent of flowers in your garden.
Supplied as a grafted 60-70cm plant in a 2L pot, ready to plant out.
Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizer. Like other members of the pea family, wisteria fixes nitrogen in the soil, so too much nitrogen causes excessive leaf growth and poor flowering.
