Product Information

A long-flowering, semi-evergreen shrub that looks fabulous in a mixed border, Abelia 'Tricolour Charm' (R) has attractive, glossy, multi-coloured leaves and fragrant white flowers.

Ideal for a cottage-style garden, this shrub is remarkable due to its tricolour foliage in shades of green, cream and pink, tinged with yellow in spring. Its perfumed white flowers appear from July and last well into September.

Compact in habit, Tricolour Charm forms a neat shrub that is perfect for growing in a pot on the terrace or balcony in a sunny, sheltered position. Easy to grow and hardy to -12°C, it's best grown in the shelter of a wall or towards the back of a border to encourage it to hang on to its leaves.

Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready for immediate planting.

Care Information

Planting Advice for Abelia:

  • Best grown in well-draining soil in full sun or partial shade - a minimum of 6 hours sun is needed for the best foliage colour.
  • Water your potted plant well.
  • Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.
  • Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots.
  • Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot then refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
  • Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.

Aftercare advice for Abelia:

  • Water regularly until established.
  • Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser in spring

Pruning Advice for Abelia:

  • Prune your abelia in March-April to the desired size, or to keep it compact and dense. Remove any branches that are damaged, dead or misplaced.
