Product Information

A profusely blooming new viola mix in the widest range of bold and bright colours! This collection features 3 each of Blue, Scarlet, White and Yellow Frost all offering beautiful tones from dark pink to bronze.

Viola plants will brighten your beds, borders and planters - the ideal plant for hanging baskets and patio containers. Some can even be used to splash colour into your winter displays. Violas are so versatile and year in, year out, their cheerful exuberance make them the nation's favourite.

'Ice Babies' has a gently mounding habit which makes it a variety ideal for containers where the blooms will spill gently over the sides creating an enchantingly delightful display.

Flowering from autumn and though winter, they’ll reach a crescendo of colour in the spring, providing you with 3 season's worth of vibrance, especially during those cold, dark months where there's little else to bring excitement to the garden. Who’d have thought you could have wonderful hanging basket displays adorning the front of your house through the middle of winter?

Suppled as a collection of 12 plug plants ready for potting up and growing on or for planting straight into containers and baskets.

Care Information

Planting Advice for your Viola

  • Unpack plugs immediately and stand them in water for an hour.
  • If you can’t do this, they can sit in their mini greenhouse for a week if upright and not too wet.
  • Plugs may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover.
  • Put them somewhere warm, light and airy such as a windowsill or greenhouse.
  • When potting on, handle plugs carefully. Pot on using our 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays, using good multi-purpose compost.
  • Alternatively plant straight into baskets and grow on for a week or two before hanging up.
  • Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry. They don’t like to be left in standing water.
  • Plant approx. 20cm (8in) apart to allow them room to grow.
  • Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.
  • Dead head when flowers fade to encourage more flowers.

Aftercare advice for Viola:

  • Regular maintenance and watering are essential to grow fabulous baskets that last the whole season.
  • Check and water baskets every day in summer, (unless the compost is wet).
  • Aim to keep the compost moist but not soggy and avoid wetting the foliage and flowers.
  • From March to June, apply a general-purpose liquid fertiliser once a week.

Pruning and Trimming advice for violas:

  • Deadhead and trim your plants regularly to maintain shape and encourage new flowers.
  • Do not allow plants to set seed.
