Top Tips
- Keep well watered, and if growing in pots, use good quality, soil-based compost.
- Add Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi to the roots when planting to help establish your trees quickly.
- Plant in sunnier positions to grow the best fruit possible!
Care Information
- Select appropriate spots for your trees to mature, making sure that you give them ample space to grow to their full size.
- Dig a hole twice the width of the existing roots, forking over the bottom to loosen the soil, and add some good quality fertiliser such as Blood Fish & Bone (wash your hands afterwards!)
- Aim to plant at the same depth as the soil mark on the trunks.
- Holding the tree upright in position with one hand, slowly backfill the hole with soil, and gently shake the plant, so the soil falls back around the roots.
- Use your heel to compact the soil around the plant to ensure good contact around the roots. If you're planting into pots, place some old rocks, stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot for drainage and ballast.
- Apply a slow-release fertiliser such as in early spring, and mulch to retain moisture.
- Water regularly, and don't let the soil dry out if planted in pots.
- Established trees don't require radical pruning - just take off any diseased, dying and damaged branches in late winter. Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches and remove any that cross over so they don't damage each other.
